Anthropology is the study of human beings and their ancestors through time and space and in relation to physical character, environmental and social relations, and culture. “Nexus” is the combination of anthropology and the theology of origin, nature and growth of Artificial Intelligence.
Though the genre of this book is non fictional, it isn’t strictly fitting in the category as the author, renowned historian and futurist Yuval Noah Harari, equates the reality of the AI with the typical scenario of the science fiction thriller, where robots takeover the world. He challenges readers to think critically about the potential consequences of these developments and to consider the ethical and moral implications of our choices.
In this book Harari presents a fascinating exploration of the interconnectedness of human history, science, and technology but not in a traditional narration but with a thought-provoking analysis of the complex relationships between various disciplines and their impact on our understanding of the world.
Harari’s central argument is that the boundaries between history, science, and technology are becoming increasingly blurred. He contends that the future of humanity will be shaped by the convergence of these fields, leading to unprecedented challenges and opportunities. Through a series of vignettes and case studies, Harari illustrates how the intersection of disciplines has driven innovation and progress throughout history.
Anyone familiar with the writing style of Harari knows that his books are filled with astonishing examples, which are probably the best part of the book. Another strength of the book is its ability to make complex concepts accessible to a broad audience. Harari’s writing is engaging, clear, and concise, making “Nexus” an enjoyable read for both specialists and non-experts.
Compared to the previous works of Harari, I will put Nexus next to “Sapiens” only.
In conclusion, “Nexus” is a thought-provoking and insightful book that will appeal to anyone interested in the intersection of history, science, and technology. Harari’s unique perspective and engaging writing style make this book a compelling read that will leave you pondering the possibilities and challenges of our rapidly changing world.
